I have a dream.
On April 4, 2018 it was the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's assassination. To keep his dream alive, 50 identical statues were placed from Washington to Amsterdam on locations that refer to slavery and places that let us remember how important it is to end racism and fight for equality, regardless of gender, religion and race. History may not be forgotten. The statues are an ode to Martin Luther King and everybody who continues his nonviolent mission. On http://www.mlk50.nl you find the people, locations and organizations who are part of this network exhibition, keeping the dream alive.
Airco Caravan (Amsterdam/New York) is conceptual artist, painter and activist.
During Art The Hague 2019 only round artworks will be on view, inspired by the 100th anniversary of Women's voting rights in the Netherlands, and the art fair's theme 'Women in art'. Of course this made me think of the Guerrilla Girls, who said in 1989: "Do women have to be naked to get into the Met Museum?". Today, 30 years later, not too much has changed. As founder of the Nasty Women Amsterdam fundraiser exhibition, I feel strongly connected with women's rights, and I ask myself: what happened in the last era, are women equal now in our male dominated society and art world? My paintings focus on this question by showing the not so exciting everyday objects, mostly used by women.Past projects:
